SUMMARY:Theology Matters Conference\, Tues 2nd-Thurs 4th June
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Prof. Steve Walton\, Senior Research Fellow in New Testament atTrinity College\, Bristol\, will be joining us for this year’s conference to help us look at the Book of Acts. \nActs is a uniquely significant book in the New Testament as it tells the story of the origins and growth of the early church. Indeed\, even calling the book Acts raises the question\, the Acts of whom? The Acts of the Apostles as they preach the word of God? The continuing Acts of Jesus in Luke’s second volume? The Acts of the Holy Spirit\, the promised gift who came at Pentecost and comes upon those who respond to the Gospel? Yes! Intertwined are many issues we must all grapple with. How do we do theology from narrative? What is descriptive and what is prescriptive in Acts? Of the many fascinating elements of the book\, what can we learn and apply today as we seek to see lives transformed and churches strengthened? What should we be looking for when the gospel is preached and people respond? These are just some of the questions the book raises. \nThis conference will be a time when we can open God’s Word together and be guided by one who has spent decades thinking through these issues in Acts. As such\, we will all gain a greater understanding of the book of Acts\, which will enable us to apply what we learn in our various contexts and in the diverse roles God has us in. Come and join us for what promises to be a rich and stimulating time of teaching and discussion in a book of the Bible that greatly impacts us all. \nMore about our speaker:\nTake a moment to watch this short video from Steve who shares a little bit about himself and his hopes for the conference. Steve Walton \nSteve is Senior Research Fellow in New Testament at Trinity College and has just published the first of three volumes on the book of Acts in the Word Biblical Commentary series. \nSteve is a former Secretary of the British New Testament Society\, and a member of the Society for New Testament Studies\, He is the coauthor of Exploring the New Testament\, vol. 1: The Gospels and Acts\, and author of Reading Acts Theologically. \nHis passion is to help others engage with the New Testament for themselves and he is a retired international volleyball referee and trainer of other referees and was an Olympic torchbearer in 2012! \nBook Here
