Together\, we will shine a light on the impact of violence against women and girls\, raise awareness\, think about breaking generational barriers and inspire action across our communities.\nThe service will feature thought-provoking contributions from the Bishop of Plymouth\, alongside other inspiring speakers as well as courageous personal stories from those whose lives have been affected by abuse and violence. Through reflection\, hope\, and shared commitment\, we will explore how every individual\, organisation\, and community can play a greater part in creating a safer and more compassionate society.\nThis event is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with survivors\, remember those affected by violence\, and renew our collective commitment to change. In June 26\, the core team got together and prayerfully were drawn to Matthew 5: 14-16.\n“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand\, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way\, let your light shine before others\, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”\n We are inspired by young people’s faith and feel like this year\, God wants us to really focus on encouraging young people to put their faith on show. And so\, that is what we are going to explore across all three Ignites. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Prof. Steve Walton\, Senior Research Fellow in New Testament atTrinity College\, Bristol\, will be joining us for this year’s conference to help us look at the Book of Acts. \nActs is a uniquely significant book in the New Testament as it tells the story of the origins and growth of the early church. Indeed\, even calling the book Acts raises the question\, the Acts of whom? The Acts of the Apostles as they preach the word of God? The continuing Acts of Jesus in Luke’s second volume? The Acts of the Holy Spirit\, the promised gift who came at Pentecost and comes upon those who respond to the Gospel? Yes! Intertwined are many issues we must all grapple with. How do we do theology from narrative? What is descriptive and what is prescriptive in Acts? Of the many fascinating elements of the book\, what can we learn and apply today as we seek to see lives transformed and churches strengthened? What should we be looking for when the gospel is preached and people respond? These are just some of the questions the book raises. \nThis conference will be a time when we can open God’s Word together and be guided by one who has spent decades thinking through these issues in Acts. As such\, we will all gain a greater understanding of the book of Acts\, which will enable us to apply what we learn in our various contexts and in the diverse roles God has us in.
